The Cakes!

Almost everyone has a tasty cake recipe up their sleeve, be it wobbly cheese cakes or savoury rhubarb crumble. Some are artistic, some are chaotic, some a sheer explosion of tastes and shapes, whatever you feel like, however experimental you are, we encourage you to come and make it with us. Whatever you have to offer will be served to you tonight at the concert. The baking will happen in various local kitchens, so you get an insiders take on just how the Freiburger's make their fingers creamy. Sign up in advance so that we can organise the kitchens.

Baking FAQ

For hosts

What is happening? Lovely locals invite our guests into their kitchens to spend a relaxed morning creating all kinds of sweet treats together. You could bake a delicious apple pie or a chocolate cake. Maybe you’re up for a challenge and want to prepare a huge Black Forest Gateaux? It’s all up to you and your creativity.

Do I need any special skills or equipment? No! You don’t need to be a baking expert to host a baking team. Maybe one of your guests is a real pro and wants to share a recipe. Or you just make something simple together...the most important thing is to have fun. If you don’t have baking equipment, you could also consider making another dessert or savory dish. Yes, it’s the Lindy Cake, but we love all kinds of food!

Do I need to buy the ingredients beforehand? You can either go shopping beforehand or do it on Saturday morning with your guests. Keep the receipts and give them to Jenni within 2 weeks after the event, together with your name and bank details, so you can get your money back.

I would love to join but my kitchen is tiny...? You don’t have to host a huge team. Let us know if you want to bake, even if you only have space for one more person. You could also prepare a batch of simple muffins and have a cupcake decorating session with your guests in the living room.

I live in Freiburg but I don’t have space/ don’t want to commit to hosting a team. Can I still take part in the baking session at someone else’s place? We do our best to find space for everyone, but if there are more bakers than kitchen spots, our guests from out of town will have priority. Thanks for understanding.

What are we going to do with all that cake? We know it’s difficult, but please refrain from eating it right away. Bring it to the Saturday night party instead, were it will be admired by and shared with the dancing crowd at our legendary Lindy Cake buffet. If you are planning to make a cake that needs to be refrigerated, let us know beforehand, so we can make space in the fridge at the venue. Don’t forget to put a label on your cake, so people with dietary restrictions can enjoy cake, too.

I’m not sure if I want to join yet, can I also sign up later? We will have a “Baking Meet & Greet” board at the parties on Thursday and Friday where you can sign up spontaneously. However, we cannot guarantee that you find a host there, so we recommend signing up in advance for easier planning.

What if I sign up and later feel like I’d rather sleep in on Saturday? If you have already received your baking host’s contact details, discuss your plans with them as soon as possible. We might be able to give free spot to someone else, so let us know, too. We’ll make sure to introduce all bakers to each other on Friday night, so you can talk about your plans for Saturday.

I have food allergies/ other dietary restrictions/ an amazing family recipe that I want to share... Let us know in the comment section of your registration, so we can find the perfect host for you. We will also make sure to have a variety of gluten-free, vegan and sugar-free treats at the check-in.
